Error on input file: Bad file number. (code=551)

Question

Hi everyone,

When I try to get the content of a directory on an FTP server, I always get the "Error on input file: Bad file number. (code=551)" message after a certain period of time. I must mention that the directory that I'm looking to get the content of, contains over 900,000 files.

Possibly this is asking a bit too much? Or does someone see a way around this?

That's a message sent back from the FTP server - perhaps it can't cope with such a large listing. I've never heard of that many files in a directory before. I'm surprised the operating system can cope with it.
