UNC Paths Network Drive Mapping?

Is it possible to map to a network drive, where the services account running the service has access to the drive?

Yes, it works fine. You just have to map the UNC path to a mapped network drive and then the drive will show up in the folder-browser when you select "Add Windows Folder" in the File System panel.

The server runs as the SYSTEM user, and it appears that under Vista (are you on Vista), drives that are mapped by other users aren't listed by the SYSTEM user.

We are looking further into this one, will post asap.

Ok, it appears that mapped network drives can't be consistently used (see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/180362). This is because drive letters vary between logon sessions, and permissions may differ.

We will add the ability to directly enter a UNC name - that seems to be the best solution.

Hi Bruce, We are actually using Windows Sever 2008 r2.

Entering the UNC path would be great. As for the permissions required to access the UNC, will the service use the user that the service is running under for the connection? Or when you enter the UNC path will you enter a user / password?

It won't take us long to do this - we should be able to release a patch early next week.

Please email us to get a copy of a build supporting UNC paths.

For now, it simply allows the path to be entered without validation. It is up to the user's permissions (that the server is running under) whether it can actually be accessed. For example, for a ogged in Window users, that user needs permissions to access the UNC path. Non-Windows users run under the SYSTEM user.

Support for UNC paths was included in version 3.1.2, which was released on 2009-10-26.
