I am a complete ftp noob, just so you know.

What do I do after I've started my server?

How do I upload to it?

Does it have an ftp address like most servers, so I can move files across, if so, what's the server address?

I realise it must have your IP in it somewhere...

Sorry for being a drag, I've never done this before

Hi

Sorry for the very slow reply. I suppose you've probably moved on to something else by now. Anyway, once you've installed the server you need to enable a user for FTP by selecting them from the tree on the left and setting 'Enabled' to true. Once you've done that you can restart the server (button in toolbar) and then use an FTP client to connect to your machine using the user-name and password of the account that you have enabled. You can use any FTP client, including Internet Explorer and FireFox. If you are accessing the server from the same machine then use 'localhost' as the host-name (ftp://localhost if you're in Internet Explorer or FireFox).

Does that help?

Thanks.

And how would I connect to the server using FireFox from a different machine, and would the original machine have to switched on and the ftp program running? I assume yes?

So if I was accessing it from a different computer, I would type in ftp://123.456.7.89? For example, obviously that is not my real external IP address.

Yes, it does have to be switched on. Accessing it using the URL ftp://123.456.7.89 should work. You should find that FireFox pops up a dialog asking for user-name and password.
