Need help to see if online and if login is okay

I just need a small smiple code to see if you are online.
And if you can't login, if need a code to see if it is becaus the software does not have accese to the internet

Yes it is to the FTP... :P It is because if you are not connectet to the internet then my script crashes, and i don't got a clue of what to do :( and i hope sombody can help me

Try opening a socket to an external address such as ftp.microsoft.com on port 21. If you can't connect, you're probably not online.
