When connecting to CompleteFTP with an SFTP client, the connection fails and an error message "Format of SSH version is invalid" appears in the log file.

This has been observed when the Linux command-line sftp client tries to connect to CompleteFTP.

The problem was non-English characters in the welcome banner set up in CompleteFTP. Most SFTP clients such as Filezilla deal with non-English characters correctly, but the Linux sftp client does not. Removing the non-English characters from the welcome message in CompleteFTP solved this issue.
