Determining user directory on a web server

Hi all.

When logging into an ftp server specifically to upload web pages, can the ftp server communicate to the client where the users web space directory is ?

How is this handled using edtftp ?

When you first log in, pwd() will give the current working directory of that user. FTP itself knows nothing about web space directories.
